Americans Have Doubled Their Drunk Shopping
It’s safe to say that most of us make some regrettable decisions when we drink. For some of us, this includes regrettable dance movies, and for others this means taking tumbles that we don’t remember until the next day. We also tend to get a little loose and inhibition-less with our finances, which leads to some pretty interesting impulse buys. Fortunately, we’re not alone in all of our drunk shopping, be it in-person or online.
Americans love to drunk shop — according to a 2018 survey, the country has doubled its spending on drunk shopping. The survey from Finder.com, that included 2,000 people, found that half of adults who drink regularly admit to buying things drunk. U.S. adults spend about $30.4 billion on drunk purchases — that comes out to about $447.60 per person. This is up from last year’s $206 per person.
So, what are people buying? Drunk food-related purchases account for 60.83% of purchases, shoes and clothes account for 25.09%, gambling accounts for 24.91%. other popular choices that don’t make the top three are concert tickets and sex services. So the next time you have a bit too much to drink and throw caution to the wind to make a purchase — rest assured there are plenty of people out there doing the same thing.
