BarkBox brought in more than $100 million in revenue within five years of launching — all from selling dog products.
“What we really try to do with BarkBox is an experience every month, where you can have a good time with your dog, and then have a little bit more play time together,” explained the company’s co-founder, Henrik Werdelin. “What we’re doing here is that really coming up with products and services that allow you to both to make your dog happy but also to find more things that you guys can do together.”
BarkBox is a themed monthly subscription service for dogs. Boxes can be tailored to your dog whether your pet has allergies or is a super chewer. It was co-founded by Werdelin, Matt Meeker, and Carly Strife in 2012.
The company became profitable in the first quarter of 2017 and has served more than two million customers with toys and treats to date. It has raised $57 million in funding in the last five years. Nearly all of its products are created in-house by designers and all of its treats are made in the USA and Canada.
“What makes us different, I think, than other companies is that we see ourselves as a company with the sole purpose of making dogs happy, and I think for the next 100 years we’ll be able to help dogs and their people become more happy then we will continue to try and find ways to do so,” Werdelin said.
