Elon Musk just made $10 million selling flamethrowers — and he did so in four days. Musk’s Boring Company sold 20,000 of the devices for $500 each — they went on sale January 27. By Wednesday night, Musk announced the company had completely sold out, tweeting, “All flamethrowers will ship with a complimentary boring fire extinguisher.”
The flamethrowers will start shipping in the spring, but a California politician is already trying to put a stop to them.
Miguel Santiago tweeted “If this is real, I’m outraged and you should be too. If this is a joke, then it’s a terribly insensitive one given that we’re coming off of the worst wildfire season in history. Either way: NOT FUNNY. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.”
Musk addressed the legality of the device on Twitter saying, “ATF says any flamethrower with a flame shorter then 10 ft is A-ok. Our design is max fun for the least danger. I’d be way more scared of a steak knife.”
This is the Billionaire’s latest fundraising stunt — in December he raised $700,000 after selling Boring Company hats.
