Gucci To Go Carbon Neutral
Gucci is going carbon neutral.
The fashion giant said changes will stretch from its supply chain to its fashion shows. The strategy uses a mixture of reduction, elimination, and offsetting “unavoidable emissions.”
“The more time that goes by, the more reports from the scientists are clear—the planet has gone too far,” Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri told The Guardian.
The company said 90% of its greenhouse gas emissions come from its supply chain. Gucci said it will also offset fashion show guests’ carbon footprint and reuse sets from the shows in its shops.
“Offsetting is better than not doing anything, and if in the long-term it can be done we can look at that,” Bizzarri said. “But there is a danger, to [thousands of people] to go too much in a different direction [too quickly].
Gucci’s environmental initiative has been operating since 2015. The company’s 2018 report showed that emissions were down by 16%.
