Entrepreneur Brian Kelly has a message for other LGBTQ+ business owners.
“My advice to openly gay entrepreneurs and, frankly, to all entrepreneurs is like, let people know who you are and what you stand for,” he explained. “We always think the worst. Oh, if I’m gay, I’m gonna lose this contract. Or what if this person is a closet homophobe? What if? What if? What if? The end of the day, if you’re questioning all of that, you’re spending less time focusing on your true values.”
Kelly is The Points Guy — a popular travel guru who teaches people how to take advantage of frequent flyer miles and credit. He grew part of his travel business by connecting with his followers on a personal level.
“In the beginning, I was never in the closet. But I never knew what is the right way. What do my readers want to know about me?” he explained. “And what I’ve learned in this influencer world is people what to know who you are. Period. And I think that’s what’s helped the Points Guy. I am the Points Guy. There are many people who are part of The Points Guy. And I am who I am. Period. Full stop.”
