The Evolution of Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is one of Marvel Comics’ most important new heroes, even though Carol Danvers has been around since 1968. The mantle originated outside of Marvel, but thanks to some trademark shenanigans, the House of Ideas debuted their own Kree Captain Marvel to lock down the IP. The original Captain Marvel may be a far cry from 2019’s heroine, but the one thing the “Captain Marvel” movie looks like it will explain is how Carol Danvers got powers of her own. While it’s doubtful her history will be the same in the MCU “Captain Marvel” movie, what we’ve seen from the trailer, Brie Larson is going to do great justice to the character.

So who is Captain Marvel? Is she Warbird, Ms. Marvel, Binary, or just Carol Danvers? The answer is complex, and hopefully the movie will do a good job of explaining who she is and why she is here — especially if she’s going to play such a huge part in Avengers 4. “Captain Marvel” will also have a supporting cast including Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law, and even Clark Gregg. Time will tell if this movie’s Captain Marvel will live up to her legacy and blaze a new trail in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we’re looking back at her history to see how Carol became the hero she is today.
