Nation Searching for Answers After 7-Year-Old Jazmine Barnes is Killed in Drive-By

Seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes was fatally shot while driving with her family. She was in the car with her mother and three sisters to get coffee on the morning of December 30.

A man in a red pickup truck pulled up beside their car and started shooting. Jazmine’s mom threw herself over her eldest daughter in the front seat. The seven-year-old was in the backseat with her other sisters and was fatally struck in the head. The family was still in their pajamas.

“It’s our belief that it was totally unprovoked, whatever it was, and we’re leaving no stone unturned,” stated Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “We’re going to leave every motive out there as a possibility.”

Jazmine’s mom LaPorsha Washington was shot in the arm and her six-year-old sister was injured by glass. Police and the family are begging for information about the gunman who is still at large and considered dangerous.

Activist Shaun King and attorney Lee Merritt offered a $35,000 reward for the suspect’s arrest. Messages of support with #SayHerName have been circulating online.

#JazmineBarnes was only 7. A baby. Her grieving mother is asking herself what she did wrong to provoke the killer. You've done nothing wrong, mama. Nothing wrong. #JusticeforJazmine#SayHerName https://t.co/NN4vId9ZKf
