Dixie Lambert stepped up to help her town during the government shutdown.
Cordova, Alaska is a fishing town of 2,500. It also has a large population of Coast Guard members who went unpaid during the shutdown. Because of this, Lambert has been raising funds and food for the individuals who have been impacted.
“Instead of donating food I’ve encouraged people to give me gift cards to let the people pick their own food so we don’t end up with a whole case of lima beans,” she explained.
Lambert asked for donations at a local grocery store, while offering donations to Costa Guard members that she could identify.
