A Boston Marathon survivor is in the hospital after being hit by a car just blocks away from the bombing site.
Adrianne Haslet says she needs surgery after being struck inside a crosswalk. She posted about the incident on Instagram.
“The outpouring of support has been amazing,” she stated in a video. “I’m really scared and heading into my next surgery. I don’t know how many more there will be.”
Haslet was injured in the 2013 bombing while watching the race. The ballroom dancer had to have part of her leg amputated, and has since become an advocate for amputee rights as well as an avid runner. She has also continued to dance and even appeared on “Dancing with the Stars.” She currently remains in the hospital undergoing surgery.
The car’s driver told police he didn’t see her because it was dark and rainy. They were issued a citation for failing to stop for a pedestrian at a marked crosswalk.
“I can feel your love and support and I just want to say thank you,” Haslet continued in the video. “I’m really scared but I think I’m in good hands.”
