Cheetahs Go On and Inside of Jeep During Safari

Two cheetahs decided to join this man’s safari on the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Britton Hayes was on safari when two cheetahs took notice of the SUV he was in and wanted a closer look. One cheetah jumped on to the hood of the car, which caused everyone to fail to notice the other hop into the backseat.

Hayes stated to KOMO News, “Honestly, it was probably one of the scariest moments of my life while it was happening. I felt like I had to clear my mind of any thoughts because from everything you’re told about predators like that, they can sense fear and any sort of discomfort you’re feeling and they’ll react accordingly.”

The footage was filmed by wildlife photographer Peter Heistein who stated, “A cheetah climbing onto a vehicle to get a better vantage point is not unusual in the Serengeti. Climbing into a vehicle is, but the cheetah is not aggressive towards humans and I felt the animal was curious rather than aggressive.”

Hayes told KOMO he has never felt more alive:

“The sheer tension of sitting in a vehicle thinking, ‘I’m going to die,’ and then living. We just, everyone in the car just looked at each other, we paused for 10 seconds as the cheetahs walked away and we couldn’t believe that we got out of the situation, that it was real.”
