This officer and his K9 are the epitome of teamwork. Deputy Nick Catmack and Shep were chasing after a stolen car when it crashed into a telephone pole. The two were forced to split up when one of the suspects fled. Carmack apprehended the passenger while Shep chased the driver. Carmack then called for backup before frantically searching for his partner. On the body cam footage, Carmack can be heard desperately calling for Shep, almost as if something ominous was about to take place. But fortunately, Shep ended up catching up to the suspect and holding him in his jaws until his handler arrived. The suspect was desperate to be out of the dog’s jaws but the officer stated he wouldn’t let the dog off until his face was on the ground. The two men were arrested and each face several charges, including fleeing to elude a police officer, possession of meth, and resisting an officer without violence.
Carmack and Shep have been partners for roughly four years and they’re no stranger to high speed chases and chasing down suspects together. It definitely goes to show that animals are more intuitive than we give them credit for — especially ones are as well trained as Shep.
