Ffordd Pen Llech Declared World’s Steepest Street by Guinness World Records

Ffordd Pen Llech is the steepest street in the world, according to Guinness World Records. The street has a gradient of 37.45% and those who use it end up going 3.3 feet up or down for every 8.8 feet they travel horizontally. The previous record holder was Baldwin street in New Zealand, which has a gradient of 35%. “We’re taking it from New Zealand and, you know, personally I feel a little bad about that and I wish we could share it,” resident Sarah Badham stated. “But, you know, this street is steeper.” The steepest street in the United States is Canton Ave in Pennsylvania, which has a gradient of 37%. Guinness defines a street as any surfaced, public thoroughfare, that vehicles are allowed on regularly. Ffordd Pen Llech is located in a historic coastal town. Residents are excited about their town’s new record, like Gwyn Headly, who stated, “Cannot say how pleased we are that Ffordd Pen Llech has been recognized as the steepest street not just in Wales, not just in the UK, not just in Europe, but in the entire world.”
