First Gerber Baby Born with Down Syndrome

Lucas Warren is the first Gerber baby born with Down Syndrome. He was chosen from more than 140,000 entries to become 2018’s Gerber spokesbaby. The one-year-old will be featured on Gerber’s social media throughout the year. The annual photo search contest began in 2010. But in the company’s 90+ year history, no Gerber baby has had Down Syndrome.

Lucas’ mom Cortney said she entered on a whim by posted this photo of Lucas on Instagram.

“Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is Gerber baby. This year, Lucas is the perfect fit.” Bill Partyka, CEO and President of Gerber Products Company, stated.

Lucas’ family will also receive $50,000, which they plan to use for his education. Many people are already celebrating Gerber’s decision.

@Natalielinde tweeted, “I think this might be the happiest baby I’ve ever seen! And his little bow tie is so precious!”

@jmtrovato tweeted, “Beautiful!!! Amazing job @gerber! We to stand out in the world and stand for life!”

Chasedduncan tweeted, “As a father of a son with T21, Thank you @gerber.”

Lucas’ dad stated, “We’re hoping this will impact everyone…and help more individuals with special needs be accepted and not limited.”
