Coach Aaron Feis died shielding Students in the Parkland shooting. Feis was an assistant football coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Ms Douglas Football stated on Twitter, “He was out Assistant Football Coach and security guard. He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories.”
According to the head football coach Willis May, a student told him that Feis jumped between her and shooter. Feis, a school security guard, heard reports of firecrackers. He was shot and died after being rushed to surgery.
"I heard Aaron say, “No, this is not firecrackers.” That’s the last I heard of him.” May stated
School spokeswoman Denise Lehtio stated, “He died the same way he lived — he put himself second. He was a very kind soul, a very nice man. He died a hero,”
Feis was also a 1999 graduate of Stoneman Douglas and spent his entire career at the school. He is survived by his wife and daughter. A GoFundMe was started by one of Feis’ former players to help raise funds for victims and their families. At least 17 people were killed in the shooting and more remain hospitalized.
