Hospital Hosts Baby Olympics for Newborns

This hospital celebrated the Olympics by giving babies their own medals. The babies were awarded their own little accolades like “Strongest Lungs” and “Brightest Eyes.”

Chief Nursing Officer Jeff Hodges explained, “The competition we’re having in the nursey here today is really celebrating all of our champion babies. We deliver nearly 10,000 babies a year. It’s all such a special event for these new families. We just thought it would be fun to include some competition in this.”

The nursery staff created awards for six categories — Strongest Lungs, Sweetest Cheeks, Longest Eyelashes, Most Hair, Brightest Eyes and Best Napper. Two-day-old Vincent won “Most Hair.”

In addition to awards, each baby was dressed up like Team USA — in red, white and blue blankets and caps. UPMC Magee-Women’s Hospital often has fun with its little patients and dresses up babies for special occasions.

“For patients and the parents, it’s just something that helps them remember this very special moment that they have.”  Hodges stated. Having a baby is a pretty special event and each baby is its own little champion at something — it would also make sense that they be awarded for their adorable little traits.
