Gia McCrae started Lifting Our Valuable Essentials, a.k.a. the L.O.V.E. Project, after her school campus closed in April and she was in quarantine.
“I wanted to find a way to show appreciation to essential workers that couldn’t stay safe at home and had to keep going to work,” she explained. “So I wanted to acknowledge them and show gratitude for their hard work and dedication.”
McCrae delivers customized care packages to essential workers near Houston, Texas, including firefighters, bank tellers, and medical professionals. The packages contain brochures explaining the nonprofit’s work as well as a handwritten thank you card and sweet treats. The nonprofit has also delivered meals to essential workers.
McCrae told NowThis that she has gotten plenty of appreciation and positive feedback for the deliveries and gifts.
“My proudest moment with The L.O.V.E Project thus far has been the genuine thank yous that I’ve received from people,” she explained. “this organization I started off as just an idea, and I took a leap of faith to make The L.O.V.E. Project a long-term commitment, because I truly believed in the purpose. So to see the reactions from people and be able to expand in multiple states has been such a blessing and amazing opportunity.”
