2,000+ kids are still locked up with no plan to return them to their parents, and former housing secretary Julián Castro is rallying for people to take action.
“This issue really is no longer an issue of conservatives or liberals, or Republicans or Democrats or even of immigration,” he stated at a rally in Tornillo, Texas. “This is an issue about what is right and what is wrong.
Castro emphasized that the only way to ensure that the migrant children will be returned to their families is to keep putting pressure on the Trump administration.
“There’s about still 2,000 — a little over 2,000 of them that are separated from their parents. We wanna make sure that they are reunited and they are not held in the detention centers ‘cause that’s not a place to keep a child,” stated Democratic Representative Jimmy Gomez. “We need to make sure that we hold this administration accountable. They have never been straight with American people why they were doing it. Remember they said that it was to keep the children safe, then it became a deterrent effect on making sure that the parents don’t come up here and bring their kids in the first place.”
