Metalheads Disrupt Westboro Baptist Church Demonstration with Kazoos and Music

The Westboro Baptist Church’s protest backfired when heavy metal fans drowned them out with kazoos.

The church is known for picketing U.S. military funerals. Six members showed up for a hate rally in Virginia and were met by a 200+ piece kazoo jam band.

They planned to target Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, who is Virginia’s first openly trans lawmaker and metalhead. She is also the vocalist for Cab Ride Home, a band that calls themselves “drunken thrash metal.”

In 2018, Roem defeated a 25-year GOP incumbent who had pushed an anti-trans bathroom bill.

“To me, it doesn’t matter what you look like, where you come from, how you worship, who you love or yeah, how you rock,” she’s stated in the past.

Randy Blythe of the band Lamb of God learned of the hate group’s protest and decided to hold a “counterparty.” Roem wasn’t there, but responded to Westboro on Twitter, stating, “My response…and please use this quote in its entirety as I put the amount of though the situation warrants into it: ‘Meh.’”

She went on to add, “Oh, and donate money to me re-election campaign. They’ll hate that.”

The next day, Roem raised more than $26,000 for her re-election campaign.
