Middle School Teacher Told Students Not to Date Black People

This teacher allegedly told students to not date African Americans and said other racist remarks in front of students. School district officials say teacher David Swinyar repeatedly used the n-word while teaching 7th and 8th graders.

A student told a school board investigator that Swinyar said, “If your boyfriend says bad things to you and/or treats you wrong, that means he’s acting like a n***r. You all should not be dating all these different African American boys because they are not worth it.”

The report also says that in a separate incident, Swinyar used the n-word during an argument with a student, stating, “If my daughter was dating someone who used the ‘f’ word, I wouldn’t have any respect for that n***r. If [my daughter] was dating someone and that “n” said the “f” word, I would beat him up.” When a student confronted Swinyar about his language, the report says he said he “would never” say the n-word.

Kernan Middle School suspended Swinyar for 10 days without pay for the racist remarks and calling students “dumb.” The middle school has more than 1,000 students, roughly 23% of whom are African American. Swinyar is appealing the suspension, and time will tell which way authorities sway.
