Police Arrest Four Suspects for Plot to Attack Islamberg in New York

Four men were arrested for a plot to attack a Muslim community in upstate New York.

Police say they uncovered a plot by four men ages 16-20 to attack a Muslim community called Islamberg. They discovered the alleged plot after receiving a tip about a suspicious remark by one of the suspects while at school.

“If they had carried out this plot, which every indication is that they were going to, people would have died,” Police chief Patrick Phelan stated. “I don’t know how many and who, but people would have died.”

Investigators uncovered 23 firearms and three improvised explosive devices in the suspects’ homes. The explosives are under FBI investigation. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on February 5.

Islamberg is approximately three hours outside of Rochester, New York. Many Muslim families settled there in the 1980s and this isn’t the first time they’ve been targeted.

Right-wing media, including Alex Jones’ InfoWars and Fox News, have spread conspiracy theories about the community despite the FBI’s claim that they pose no threat.

In 2017, a Tennessee man was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for plotting to burn down the town’s mosque and school.
