Activists group Black Visions Collective shut down Super Bowl trains for over an hour, by linking arms and standing on the track. One protester even chained themselves to a railing with a bike lock. During the demonstration, they continued to chant, “You shut us out, we shut you down!”
The activists were protesting police brutality and the event’s disruption to public transportation.
Black Vision Collective stated on Facebook, “We shut down the green line light rail to highlight the dark side of the Super Bowl as it endangers our community members and makes our city less accessible. Only Super Bowl ticket holders have access to the light rail so the team SHUT IT DOWN!!”
Many of the protesters dispersed, once police started to intervene. Those who stayed were detained and reportedly bound with zip ties. The Metro Transit said approximately 40 people were blocked and that they used buses to get ticket holders to the stadium on time.
