A 20-year-old man was killed by police while he was asleep in his car.
Officers in Vallejo, California responded to a report of a man who had fallen asleep in the drive-thru line of a Taco Bell at roughly 10:30 pm on February 9.
According to police, the doctors were locked and the car was on. The driver who was identified by family members as Willie McCoy, was unresponsive with a handgun in his lap.
Police say that McCoy suddenly moved and that he “quickly moved his hands downward for the firearm.” Six officers fired “multiple rounds” and McCoy died at the scene.
The victim, also known by his rapper name Willie Bo, was “passionate” and “very ambitious” about music according to his brother. His family is demanding criminal prosecution of the officers involved.
“There was no attempt to try to work out a peaceful solution,” said his brother Marc. “The police’s job is to arrest people who are breaking the law—not take the law into you own hands. You’re not judge, jury and executioner…We’re never going to get over this.”
And autopsy of McCoy is pending.
