The boy weighed a little more than half a pound when he was born.

Keio University Hospital, where the baby was born, said the survival rate for babies born weight under 2.2 lbs (1kg) is roughly 90% in Japan but babies weighing under 0.7 pounds have a survival rate of 50%.

“I want people to know that babies can return home vigorous even if they are born small,” Dr. Takeshi Arimitsu stated.
