A baby was left alone on a departing train after the father stepped off to take a smoke break.
Cleveland’s transit authority says the man boarded before 10:45 am. He placed the baby carrier and diaper bag on an empty seat and stepped outside to smoke a cigarette while the train was stationed. Passengers jumped to get the dad’s attention but the doors shut before he could get back on. Surveillance footage shows the father running alongside the train, trying to get the train to stop.
Transit police were fortunately waiting at the next stop less than a mile away. The train was sent back to the previous station where the father and baby were reunited. The father will not face any charges for the incident.
