Terrorist Steal Vehicle and Takes Hostages in Supermarket at France

A terror attack in southern France has left at least 3 dead — ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident began when a gunman stole a car, killing one of the passengers, and later opened fire on a group of police, injuring one officer. The gunman then drove to a nearby town, taking hostages in a Super U supermarket. The gunman shot and killed 2 people inside the supermarket. One police officer offered himself up in a hostage swap and was seriously injured.

Officials have identified the gunman as 26-year-old Redouane Lakdim. Lakdim reportedly wanted the release of a suspect in the 2015 Paris attack. Police stormed the supermarket and shot and killed Lakdim after a 4-hour standoff.

President Emmanual Macron stated, “We have for several years paid the price of blood to know the dangerousness of the terrorist threat. Our soldiers abroad risk their lives to reduce the threat coming from Iraq and Syria. Our security forces in our territories do not count their efforts or risks to identify threats and neutralize them.”

Paris has suffered a series of attacks since 2015, including an attack on the Bataclan concert hall with killed 130 people and an attack involving a truck which killed more than 80 people.
