YouTube Star Wins Revenge Porn Lawsuit Against Ex

This YouTube star won a lawsuit against her ex for posting revenge porn, and celebrated by proposing to her girlfriend outside the courthouse. Before Chrissy Chambers came out as a lesbian, she had a nine-month relationship with a man when she was 18. She says that he filmed them having sex without her knowledge and, several years after they split, he ex posted six videos to a porn site.

Chambers found out 19 months later in 2013 — at that point, she was dating her now-fiancé.

“When I first saw them, I felt like I’d been stripped of my dignity. Each one included my full name and my ex had included text calling me a slut and a horrible role model. By the time I found them, they had been viewed tens of thousands of times.” Chambers stated. “Life as I had known it ended. It was like I had been hit in the chest and couldn’t catch my breath.”

Although Chambers is American, she brought the case to the UK, because her ex is British and revenge porn is a criminal offense there.

After a four-year battle, Chambers won a “substantial” sum in damages, as well as the copyright of the videos.

“[This] should serve as a severe warning to those who seek to extort and harm with revenge porn: you cannot do this with impunity, and you will be held accountable for your actions.”
