In September, the Trump Administration called for an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA,) which has caused 14,000 people to lose protections already. According to fox9, hundreds of thousands of people could face deportation if DACA ends in March.
The decision has sparked immigration debates on both sides and even brought on a meeting with both Democrats and Republicans on immigration, Trump's border wall funding and potentially renewing DACA. It is also inspiring celebrities and icons to speak out in support of the act.
“It’s not what you look like or where you were born, that makes you American…” explained actor and activist Alyssa Milano. “…America is at its best when it embraces the ideal that all people are created equal. How we treat DREAMers reflects our commitment to the values that define us as Americans.”
“800,000 DREAMers who call America home are at risk of losing status now that President Trump ended DACA.” Explained actor and activist Piper Perabo.
“You can remind them that if they don’t do the right thing, we will remember in the November elections.” Stated Women’s March co-founder Linda Sarsour.
“DREAMers and their families moved to the United States for the same reason that immigrants like my parents have been coming here for hundreds of years…” stated Ady Barkan of the Center for Popular Democracy.
