This artwork forced Congress to look family separation in the eye.
“So it’s about family separation. And today marks the anniversary of when Jeff Sessions announced the zero-tolerance policy which kinda laid groundwork for family separation,” artist Paola Mendoza said. “I decided to take the horrors of family separation and try and encompass that into a piece of artwork and installation and put it in front of the Capitol obviously to remind our congressmen and women, our senators and the Trump administration that thousands of families were separated. Many still are separated.”
