Former White House counsel Chris Kang believes the FBI investigation into Brett Kavanaugh was a “sham.”
“I ran hundreds of FBI background investigations for President Obama’s judicial nominees and I can tell you how the process works or should work,” he stated. “The Trump administration and Senate Republicans have run over this process and turned it into a sham.”
Firstly, Kang says the FBI ignored people who might corroborate with allegations. They were only authorized to talk to 10 people, even though Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez gave plenty of names of those who could be interviewed.
Secondly, the FBI didn’t look into whether Kavanaugh made false claims. There’s a chance that Kavanaugh lied under oath, and the claims he made during his hearing should be looked into for accuracy — but they weren’t.
Finally, the FBI didn’t question Kavanaugh about the allegations.
“The FBI has not re-interviewed Judge Kavanaugh himself,” Kang stated. “Judge Kavanaugh’s not being truthful is a problem, but the fact that they won’t even re-interview Judge Kavanaugh again to ask him about these inconsistencies, to make him explain himself, is really proof that Republicans are so afraid of what Judge Kavanaugh has to tell, and what professional FBI agents will be able to determine if given the opportunity, that the process is broken.”
