Cory Booker Announces Ambitious Plan to Curb Gun Violence

Cory Booker plans to address the national gun violence epidemic. The New Jersey senator and presidential candidate rolled out the boldest gun reform plan in 30 years.

“We are at a point of national crisis,” he said. “It is a crisis where we have a new normal, where somehow a hundred people dying due to gun violence every single day is not awakening moral urgency that we must have.”

Booker has come forward with a far-reaching policy that would fix many aspects of the country’s gun reform problem.

First, it would require stricter gun licensing, which would require carriers to prove a minimum competency.

“We’ve seen that in states that do that, they have dramatic drops in gun violence, like Connecticut that have over a 40% drop in gun violence in their state, and ever 15% drop in suicides,” Booker said.

The measure would also limit gun purchases to one a month, and curtail the ability for gun runners and people who want to traffic weapons to get their hands on large amounts.

It would also ban assault weapons and allow the CEC to conduct research into gun violence.

“American guts, and American determination will stop this problem,” Booker said.
