This “Sex and the City” actress is running for New York governor, and will be running as a Democrat. She’ll be taking on current Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo.
In a promotional video Nixon stated, “Our leaders are letting us down. We are now the most unequal state in the entire country, with both incredible wealth and extreme poverty. Half the kids in our upstate cities live below the poverty line. How did we let this happen?”
Nixon has been active in politics since 2014, when she was put on the board for the Mayor’s NYC Fund.
She also stated in a press release, “Cuomo’s time in office has been defined by a string of indictments for corruption, his failure to fix the New York City subway, and his support for a backroom deal with handed Republicans control of the state Senate, resulting in the failure of numerous pieces of progressive legislation.”
Nixon would be New York’s first female governor and the state’s first openly LGBTQ+ governor. She’d also be the first governor with an Emmy, Grammy and a Tony.
Many people are already huge fans of her candidacy announcement, and it’s not just because she was on one of the best television shows ever.
