This congressman is boycotting Trump’s State of the Union address.
“I’m not going to Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech.” He explained. “I respect the office of the president, Donald Trump does not. He lies to the American people. He sows discord and discontent. He doesn’t believe in policy. He doesn’t understand policy and he doesn’t care. He doesn’t deal with the elements of governance. Instead, it’s performance.
Instead of watching the event, the congressmen plans to spend that evening with people at home “who care about the state of the union, who care about the 800,000 undocumented young people who are in a state of limbo.”
“Not just them,” he adds, “but millions of people who are their family members, their employers, their fellow workers. We need to deal meaningfully with expanding and protecting health care, not undermining the Affordable Care Act. And we need to be clear about the disastrous consequences of the Republican tax program lavishing billions on people who don’t need it. It’s past time that we stopped dignifying the performance of this reality TV show performer. Let’s get serious about governance. I will do that at home with the people that I represent and not waste time dignifying his antics.”
