Former Mexican President Vicente Fox called out a few of Trump's many lies—chief among them the “facts” about the border wall.
“It’s not the wall. Where you have to go is to the source. People [are] coming from Central American now, not from Mexico,” he explained in reference to Trump’s claims that a border wall will help immigration problems. “You have to go to Central American, and prepare and make the condition for those people to have opportunities of a job, opportunities of going to school, opportunities to live in peace.”
Fox also refuted Trump’s claims that Mexico is a crime ridden country.
“We have a crime rate, today in Mexico, 28 crimes per each 100,000 inhabitants,” he said. “It’s not a good rate, but in the United States you have 50 of your large cities that are well over and above the 28 crime rate—they go up to 50, and even further than 50.”
He also addressed Trump’s claims that Mexicans are taking U.S. jobs.
“Mexico is not taking jobs away from the United States,” he said. “U.S. economy is losing competitiveness, But U.S. economy is replacing manufacturing jobs with high technology jobs, with innovation jobs, and knowledge economy jobs, service jobs. That’s why I don’t understand that white male American in Midwest U.S. that is claiming that he doesn’t have a job.”
