A holocaust-denying neo-Nazi is running for congress. According to CNN, Arthur Jones has been part of anti-Semitic groups since the 1970s, has participated in neo-Nazi rallies, and is part of the “White People’s Party.” He’s currently running for an Illinois House seat, and is completely unopposed for the GOP nomination. The self-described head of the American Nazi Party is hoping to beat Democratic Representative Daniel Lipinski.
His campaign page contains a section titled “Holocaust?” which states “…there is no proof such a so-called “holocaust,” ever took place anywhere in Europe against the Jews.” There’s also a section titled “Hate Speech?” which cites hate speech he agrees with and states “Senator Douglas remarked that he had always considered this government was made for White People and not for the Negroes.”
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider stated, “The Illinois Republican Party and our country have no place for Nazis like Arthur Jones. We strongly oppose his racist views and his candidacy for any public office, including the 3rd Congressional District.”
Jones certainly faces steep odds to winning — as the district is largely Democratic. But the fact that he is even running indicates how empowered white supremacists are feeling as of late.
