J Balvin Becomes First Latinx Artist to Headline Lollapalooza

J Balvin became the first Latinx artist to headline Lollapalooza—and he did his entire set in Spanish.
“After 28 years of @lollapalooza for the first time a Latin artist is the man (Headliner) of the night, this is dedicated to dreamers to Latinos and those who know that in live everything is cause and effect that is we deserve to be here LATINO GANG??” he stated on Instagram.
The Colombian singer’s music is a combination of reggaeton, hip-hop, and R&B. he recorded his first solo song, “Panas,” in 2004.
So far, his videos have been viewed more than 12 billion times. Of the eight headliners at the 2019 Lollapalooza, J Balvin made history as the festival’s first Latinx headliner.
“J Balvin is the first Latino artist to headline Lolla in its 28 year history, we happen to be from the same neighborhood him and I, and seeing him tonight brought tears to me face, always follow your dreams y que viva Colombia somo los mejores,” @LIPASLIGHT stated on Twitter.
“J Balvin headlining Lolla tonight was amazing,” @TURQUESKI tweeted. “Representation is key! Latino gang 28 years later the first Latino artist headlines #Lolla for the first time.”
