Kyrsten Sinema Is Fighting To Make History As Senator From Arizona
Kyrsten Sinema went from homelessness to the halls of Congress — now she’s in one of the most important Senate races of 2018.
“I’m really incredibly lucky because all of this happened in America, and there are these opportunities for people to get access to the American dream,” she explained. “So I got to go to college, and ran for office, and I’ve been serving in Congress for six years now.”
Sinema could be Arizona’s first woman senator, America’s first openly bisexual senator, and America’s second youngest senator — but she’s not counting.
“I don’t really spend much time thinking about being ‘first,’” she said. ‘What I do spend my time thinking about is how to be the best senator I can be. So I want to be the hardest-working senator. I want to be the best senator for Arizona.”
Sinema is fighting to take the seat of Republican Senator Jeff Flake who is stepping down, partly as a revolt against the modern-day GOP.
Immigration is going to be a major topic in Arizona's Senate race. Sinema advocates for “the people who work so hard in our country and are trying their best to live the American dream.”
