Staten Island’s Congressman-elect Max Rose is excited for the new wave of young politicians who are going to change the country.
“So I’m excited to see this new group of freshman members of Congress bringing that same selfless commitment to country, that same commitment to results down to Washington, D.C., because it’s so sorely needed,” he stated.
In Staten Island, Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 17% in 2016. But in 2018, that same district sent Democrat Rose to Congress.
“We didn’t flip a red district, and we didn’t turn anything blue,” he stated. “What we did is we earned the trust of voters and we did that over the course of more than a year using our ears and our mouth in equal proportion and talking to people how there are bold and clear and dynamic solutions to the problems that they face…” Rose explained.
The congressman said that he hopes to create policies in the opposite fashion of Mitch McConnell. The Senate majority leader made it his mission to denounce and block any policy that came from President Obama, regardless of if it would be beneficial to the country or not.
“I refuse to be that type of elected official, I refuse to, when I’m at the fork in the road, improving the lives of the people who call my district home and potentially giving Donald Trump a win, maybe improving his chances of winning reelection in 2020, you’re out of your damn mind if you don’t think I’m gonna make a decision to improve the lives of the people in my district,” he stated.
