Maxine Waters said she won’t be intimidated by recent bomb threats — and she’s blaming Donald Trump for the chaos.
The U.S. Representative for California received one of the numerous suspicious packages with makeshift pipe bombs, each sent to people and news organizations who have been known to criticize Trump. But Waters said she won’t let it scare her and she’s encouraging everyone to rise against the violence.
“I want to tell you, we must not be intimidated to the point where we stop advocating and protesting for justice,” she stated. “We should not crawl under the bed, close the doors, not go out, be afraid to go to rallies, whatever. We have to keep doing what we’re doing in order to make this country right. That’s what I intend to do.”
Waters said the political climate has been overwhelmed by hate and violence, and she’s accusing Trump of reinforcing the rhetoric. Earlier this year, Waters received death threats after protesting family separation.
“He in his own way, really does do a lot to promote violence,” she stated.
In 2017, Waters gained plenty of notoriety after she clapped back at racist comments from Bill O’Reilly, stating, “I’m a strong Black woman and I cannot be intimidated.”
