Virginia has elected a socialist to its House of Delegates.
Lee Carter is a Democratic Socialist who was elected to Virginia’s House of Delegates in November 2017.
“I did five years active duty in the United States Marine Corps.” Carter explained. “I’m an electronics repairman by trade. I was installing a lighting panel and an electrician had mis-wired the panel. So, there was a wire that was only supposed to have 24 volts on it — It was 245 volts on it. And I got that in one hand and out the other. It was so jarring that I blew out my lower back and I could barely walk more than about 50 feet at a time for about two and a half, three months.”
He went on to state, “When I called my boss and said ‘Hey, I’m ready to go back to work,’ and they said, ‘We have work but we don’t have any for you because the manufacturer that you were working for doesn’t want you on their job sites.’ Then I went through the workers comp system and there are so many loopholes and so many cracks that people can fall through — so it was then that I decided that I needed to step forward and run for something and fix the problems that I had seen firsthand.”
