Rashida Tlaib now has subpoena power—here’s what that means for Trump.
“The President of the United States not divesting in his foreign and domestic investments and corporations into the Trump Organizations all across the world and the country is a direct violation of the United States Constitution,”Tlaib said.
Trump continues to profit from his businesses, which are now run by his sons. Tlaib says it’s her responsibility as Congress to make sure there is a balance of government and as a member of the Oversight Committee, she’s pushing to investigate the president’s domestic and foreign investments.
Trump faces questions on whether his coziness with Saudi Arabia is due to his personal business dealings there and whether his fondness for Putin is tied to the money he makes from Russia.
Trump’s D.C. hotel has raised particular concerns. Companies and countries have been spending big bucks at Trump’s hotel. T-Mobile has even spent $195,000 there while seeking admin approval on a merger deal.
“As one of the newest members on the Oversight Committee, which really is to me the accountability committee, I’m hoping to hit the ground running and partnership with Chairman [Elijah] Cummings (D-MD) to get the truth out,” Tlaib said.
The Oversight Committee is investigating whether Trump broke the law in his efforts to sell nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia, why he lied about ordering Jared Kushner’s security clearance, and whether he tried to his details from his meetings with Putin.
