RuPaul thinks voting is more important than ever.
The entertainer and drag icon has helped create a platform for previously marginalized individuals in the LGBTQ+ community — and is now using it to encourage people to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.
“Whether the outcome is what you want or not, you have to be a part of the dialogue,” he stated.
RuPaul said he’s never witnessed a darker time in America, and the only way to fix it is by going to the polls and voting.
“I think young people, especially now, are understanding how important it is to get involved with the world we live in,” he stated. “In my lifetime, I don’t remember it ever being this dark, in my lifetime, or this divided. So I think looking on the bright side, it has given young people an opportunity to get involved in the world they live in.”
He also wants voters to know that they are a reflection of the world, and it is a reflection of them, so voting is pertinent in order to make sure their feelings and views are reflected.
“We live in America and this is the greatest country ever. And it — no one has ever come close to this,” he explained. “We’ve got lost in our narrative collectively.”
