Young American Jews Call for Democratic Candidates to Reject AIPAC Ahead of 2020
Activist Rae Gaines, and American Jew, believes that Palestinians and Israelis deserve the same civil and political rights as Americans.
As the U.S presidential primary approaches, 2020 hopefuls like Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren are already putting together their staff and platforms— and Gaines wants them to know that her generation will be paying attention to whether they support or oppose Israeli occupation and if they are fighting for the freedom and dignity for all Israelis and Palestinians.
“It starts with AIPAC, the right-wing, pro-Israel lobby, with close ties to Trump,” she explained. “AIPAC does not represent me, my community or the Jewish values I hold dear.”
Gaines wants the 2020 presidential candidates to reject AIPAC and skip its annual conference in March.
For years, AIPAC has pushed a far-right agenda under the banner of promoting a bipartisan consensus and “shared values” between the U.S. and Israel. What they’ve actually done is help support decades of violence between two nations. They support building a Trump-style border wall and checkpoints to limit the freedom of the Palestinian people. Today, they are pushing the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, which would make it illegal to support boycotts of companies operating in the West Bank.
“There’s a rising generation in the Democratic Party that is willing to be on the right side of history,” Gaines said. “I, and other American Jews, call on you to join them.”
