It’s not unusual to see hip-hop artists throwing around large wads of cash in their music videos. In fact, they’re known for showing off excess and opulence in their videos, whether it’s through huge amounts of jewelry, fancy clothes or literal piles of money. But how many artists have you seen take all of that money and give it away to people in need? Probably none, which is what makes Drake’s new music video so cool.
The video “God’s Plan” is full of Drake giving back. The rapper was recently spotted in Florida taking over a high school and making a $25,000 donation towards after school programs. But that isn’t the only huge monetary donation he made in Miami. Among his other donations, he made an announcement in a super market that all the shopper’s purchases were free. He also gave out wads of cash to strangers and bought some lucky individuals new cars. He paid for shopping sprees, scholarships and gave a total of $996,631.90 away.
This was, incidentally, the entire budget for the music video, but the looks on people’s faces were much more meaningful than fancy locations, props and special effects. Drake called the video, “the most important thing” he’s done in his career.
