Gabrielle Union is showing women they can save themselves in her new movie “Breaking In.”
“I thought it was about — it was high time that we saw a superhero movie that didn’t exist in a DC or the Marvel universe, where we see women saving their damn selves,” she stated.
In the movie, Gabrielle fearlessly defends her family from four armed invaders looking for hidden money. She says she didn’t do any training for the role and intentionally wanted her character to look like she was fighting for her life.
“She didn’t know she was gonna end up in this situation. She thought she was packing up a house. I didn’t want her to turn out to be, you know a Navy SEAL, or Special Ops, or turns out she’s a jiu jitsu champion. So, I didn’t really want to do much training at all,” she explained. “So, I just did Pilates and I drank rosé and that was it.”
For Gabrielle, “Breaking In” proves the power of women:
“I save myself every day. I’m super capable. I magically make it through my day without my husband, like, literally running in to save me. And most women do save themselves every day.
