Keanu Reeves is starring in a new Xbox game.
The 54-year-old “Matrix” actor made a surprise appearance at E3 to announce he’s going to be in “Cyberpunk 2077,” an open-world shooter that takes place in the futuristic Night City.
“You play as an outlaw—and enhanced mercenary working in the sleazy underbelly of the city,” he explained. “The feeling of being there, of walking the streets of the future, is really going to be breathtaking.”
Reeves said CD Projekt Red, the company that makes Cyberpunk 2077, approached him “a while back” to be a part of its new project.
“[CD Projeckt Red] were going on and on about how they’d create this vast open world with a branching storyline, how you’d be able to customize your character through in-game choices he said and it’s not something I knew before but I was excited by,” he said.
Twitter’s reaction to Reeves’ appearance and announcement ranged from wonderment to thirsty.
“Literally Keanu Reeves won E3. There is no argument of debate to be had. It’s actual factuals,” @cabooseek tweeted. “I’ll never forget getting to experience that like. The entire theater collectively LOST IT seeking Keanu in #Cyberpunk2077.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was first revealed in 2012. In 2018, CD Projeckt Red released a video of 48 minutes of gameplay. At E3, Keanu announced the game will be released in April 16, 2020.
