Latin Music is now more popular than country in the U.S.
A 2018 report from the data company BuzzAngle shows Latin music is now the 5th most popular music genre in the U.S., surpassing country and EDM.
BuzzAngle attributes the rise in popularity to artists like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and Luis Fonsi, as well as hits like “I Like It” by rapper Cardi B, which was the best-selling Latin single in 2018. The top two Latin albums were by Ozuna, a Puerto Rican singer who sold more than 700,000 albums.
Hip-hop, rap, and pop still dominate the charts, with Drake being the most listening to artist in 2018. But Latin music’s popularity in 2018 suggests the genre might continue to rise through 2019.
