Dwyane Wade dedicated his season to a Parkland shooting victim — then he went out and made the game-winning shot. D-Wade took the court against the 76ers while wearing shoes with Joaquin Oliver’s name written on them. Joaquin was one of the 17 people who tragically lost their life during the February school shooting in Parkland, FL.
He stated, “For me, it’s just giving whatever I can to people who believe in me. Just paying some due respect to him and his family.”
In life, Oliver was a Miami Heat super fan who was excited about Wade’s recent return to play in Miami. He was even buried in a Dawyane Wade jersey. Wade has dedicated he rest of the heat’s season to Joaquin’s memory. His season high 27 points and game winning shot was the perfect place to start.
Wade has also made it clear that he’ll continue to speak up for change moving forward, stating on Twitter, “It’s way BIGGER than basketball. We are the voices for the people that don’t get to be heard. This is why we will not just SHUT up and dribble!”
So much support has been shown to the victims of the Stoneman Douglas shooting and the survivors — hopefully change will come from all of the support.
