Nor ‘Phoenix’ Diana is the World’s First Hijabi Wrestler

Nor ‘Phoenix’ Diana is the “world’s first hijabi wrestler” who became Malaysia’s first woman champion. In July 2019, Nor “Phoenix” Diana became the first woman “Wrestlecon Champion,” a title previously only held by men. “This is only the beginning,” she stated on Instagram. “No one has seen what Nor “Phoenix” Diana is fully capable of. There is a new champion. There is the beginning of a new era.” The 19-year-old has wrestled for only three years. Her interest in wrestling video games led her to take in-person classes. Soon after she began participating in Malaysia Pro Wrestling, which identifies as the country’s “first and only” pro wrestling organization. In the early stages of her career, “Phoenix” competed in a mask. But in 2018, she entered the ring wearing her hijab. She’s been called the first hijabi wrestler in the world.
