Chloe Kim is crushing Olympic runs and inspiring girls everywhere. She’s the youngest woman to win Olympic gold on the halfpipe with a nearly perfect score for Team USA. 17-year-old Kim is a first generation Korean American from Southern California. Kim said she dedicated an Olympic run to her grandmother.
She started snowboarding when she was four and has been proving age is just a number ever since. She was talented enough to compete in the 2010 Olympics, but was too young. That didn’t stop her from breaking other records — she was the youngest person to win gold at the X Games.
She’s a risk-taker known for sticking tricks that women have never landed at the Olympics or the X Games. And her accomplishments are inspiring girls everywhere.
@jennettseward tweeted, “My 9-year-old daughter loves to snowboard, and she loves (loves) Chloe Kim. Big fun to watch this last night. And so fab for young girls to have strong, daring role models".
@sallyyuelin tweeted, “When I was 112, I watched the 2002 #WinterOlympics, wanting to try snowboarding. But everyone said “Asians can’t snowboard, especially not Asian girls. NOW LOOK AT US! Tears in my eyes thinking about her parents who gave up so much. #TeamAsianAmerica #ChloeKim #PyeongChang2018.”
