NBA star Spencer Dinwiddie is rocking Colin Kaepernick shoes. The point guard for the Brooklyn Nets announced that his game 13 shoes would be all about Kaep.
The gold and maroon shoes feature a portrait of Kaepernick, with the phrase “With Kap,” and an outline of the New York City skyline. He plans on wearing them against the Golden State Warriors.
Dinwiddie explained why Kaepernick inspires him on Instagram stating, “The man who inspired a nation to make a change with a ‘kneel,’ standing up for racial inequality and their beliefs while sacrificing his athletic career in the process.”
The California native said he doesn’t want to divide people in the wake of the Thousand Oaks tragedy but rather his intentions are to bring people together.
The shoes will be available to purchase starting on December 8, and all proceeds will go to charity. Despite him not knowing Kaep personally, he wishes to donate to Kaepernick’s foundation.
Kaepernick is one of the many inspirations Dinwiddie has displayed. For every game of the 2018 season, he’s announced a new pair of custom shoes on Instagram. He’s paid homage to heroic figures like Rosa Parks, Jesse Owens, Cheryl Miller, and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, an NBA player who protested during the national anthem 20 years before Kaepernick did.
